We're packing and getting ready to embark on our 5 week journey across the country. We'll be visiting about 19 states and traveling over 6000 miles. We'll be visiting many historic places, monuments, National Parks and visiting some family and friends along the way. Hope you enjoy following us here on our blog and we look forward to keeping in touch on here also.

Well we've already been on our trip for 7 days. I haven't had much luck getting internet so I could post on here. The first 3 days we pretty much drove through, Ca, Nevada, Utah and into Colorado. We stopped in Rifle Colorado and went to Rifle Falls State Park. It was 90 - 100 degrees all 3 days. Then we went on to North Platte, NE. There we had some clouds and lightning, but it was still in the 90's. On our 4th day we drove to Manning, Iowa and spent 2 days on a farm with some friends that I grew up with. We hadn't seen each other in 25+ years so it was really nice to see Debbie and Curt, 2 of their kids, her 2 grandchildren, and Gene & Shirley. I was hoping a calf might be born while we were there but no such luck. It was much cooler there also. On Wed. there was thunder, lightning and rain. They got 2 1/2 inches of rain that they desperately needed. I was really excited at night to see lightning bugs. I had never seen them and they were really cool. When you looked out across the corn fields, it looked light stars. Our 6th day was spent driving about 550 miles to get to Howe, Indiana. We hit traffic, got on the wrong highway, not sure how that happened, stopped for a couple geocaches and fuel and meals. It took us 14 hours to get to Indiana. Too long of a day! Along the way we also stopped in Wilton, Iowa at Wilton's Candy Kitchen. It was a candy and ice cream store with a soda fountain that has been in business since 1856. The same family has owned it since 1910. The owners, Thelma & George have been making ice cream there for over 50 years. George is 93 years old. He was so cute and so funny. He just shuffled along in the store and he still makes all the ice cream and chocolate. Thelma has work there for over 70 years. She started working there when she was 10 years old. George say he's lived to be 93 by eating ice cream and candy. Sounds good to us! We bought malts and 3 bags of candy. Our 6th day was spent in Howe, Indiana where we rode our bikes about 25 miles through the backroads of Amish Country. It was very pretty with lots of corn fields, bean fields, cows, horses, and farms. Some people rode around town in their buggies and they were all very friendly. Every Amish person we passed either waved or said hello. Bob said it was because we were on our bikes, if we were in our big gas guzzler, they wouldn't have been as friendly. Either way it was a good day of bike riding and seeing how other people live. Tomorrow we head over to Jefferson, Ohio and then we'll be at Niagra Falls a couple of days after that. Hope everyone is doing well. I'll try to post pictures, but no guarantees.
ReplyDeleteOK so still need to figure out pictures. I got a few on here, but they're huge! Any one know how to do it differently?
